Kingsport City Schools Names Gardenhour Robinson Middle School Principal

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools has announced that Dr. Corey Gardenhour has been named principal of Ross N. Robinson Middle School, effective July 1, 2020.

Dr. Gardenhour most recently served as the Director of Schools for Elizabethton (TN) City Schools.  Throughout his educational career, he has served as an elementary teacher in Kingsport and Johnson City Schools, a principal at Elizabethton’s West Side Elementary, and held multiple district administrative positions in Elizabethton, including Director of Special Education, Director of K-12 Curriculum, Director of Response to Intervention, Director of Testing, Director of Data Services, Director of 504, Director of Early Learning Services, Director of Technology, and Director of Guidance and Health Services. He replaces Mrs. Beth Cohen, who served as interim principal at Robinson since September, 2019.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Gardenhour is returning to Kingsport to lead the incredible staff and students at Robinson Middle School,” said Kingsport City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Moorhouse. “His long track record of success and diverse experiences as an educator provide an exciting opportunity for the Robinson community.  I am so pleased to have someone of Dr. Gardenhour’s quality leading our efforts and look forward to what will be accomplished.”

Dr. Gardenhour holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree from Milligan College, an Educational Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University, and an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University.  

“I am excited to return to Kingsport City Schools where I can renew many personal and professional relationships with so many members of the community,” said Dr. Gardenhour.  “I look forward to working with the teachers, staff, parents, and students at Robinson.  Our team will be working hard over the summer so we can be ready to move our students forward once they return.”
