Hello, rising 6th Grade Ross N. Robinson 6th Grade Band Students and Parents,

We will hold an RNR 6th Grade parent and student information meeting on Thursday, July 25, at 6:00pm, in the RNR Auditorium. The meeting will last approximately 45 minutes. Our hope is that each student can be represented by at least one parent at the meeting. All parents and students alike are encouraged to attend.

Be assured that we are very excited about our upcoming RNR 6th Grade Band. The Kingsport City Schools Band program is a 7-year journey that takes students all the way through high school, with mounting success and excitement that increases each year along the way -- but it all starts in the 6th grade! We're very pleased to have all of you involved.

At this point all 6th grade band students and families should know their instrument assignments and have materials ready for instruction according to the literature that was given to students during the instrument placement sessions. There is still plenty of time to gather materials if you have not done that yet. Generalized information about all the instruments can be found in the RNR Band Handbook. Our local music store, Music Doctors, has specific information on file about what is needed for each instrument. If you need an extra copy of the information specific to your assigned band instrument, or if you have any questions, please email either Mr. Brown or Mr. Lynn to request information.

Much of what we discuss at the meeting on 7/25/24 will be highlighted in our RNR Band Handbook. We will have printed copies on hand. You can click here to view the handbook. We are in the process of updating the handbook as new information comes available. It is a dynamic document that changes in response to factors that affect the band throughout the year.

Each year we ask each family to submit a $50 band fee per student in the form of cash or check made out to Robinson Middle School, during the months of July or August. We will begin collecting the fee at the meeting on 7/25/24, but turning in the fee is not required to participate in the meeting. You can turn in the fee any time between now and September 1, 2024. The fee covers consumables such as instruction books, T-shirts, folding music stands, notebook-binders, online music software registrations, and various band-specific classroom supplies that benefit all students.

During our meeting on 7/25/24 we will collect donations of individual-size bottled water for student use during our upcoming events throughout the school year. If you are able, please bring a 24-pack of individual size bottles of water and drop them off in the lobby as you enter the parent meeting on 7/25/24. This will be a tremendous help to us.

There are some registration forms associated with the band handbook that we ask for one parent from each family to fill out. These registration forms include demographic information, your student's band T-shirt order, a parent volunteer form, and a band policies agreement statements.
